This film is a lot different to the previous one I looked at. I like the way it uses photos to make the film rather than using a video camera. I think the music helps make the film that bit different aswell. I think I prefer this film compared with the last film and it has given me the push to use photographs rather than a video camera.
For the film brief we were given by Alan I have been researching short art films that may help inspire me as the brief can be anything we want it to be. I like this film but I think if I tried something like this it would be a little too long.
For this brief I decided to research Typography on the internet and to see which modern typefaces I like and dislike. Here are a few examples of the typefaces I do like:
I like this typeface because it has a quirky side to it and it isn’t your typical typeface that everyone will use in day to day life.
Don’t Try This At Home…Part 3
As it was the end of college I had decided to make my way back to the car. It was now 4pm and the traffic looked like it was starting to get bad. Driving through Walsall back home, I noticed so many different things with Helvetica writing on. There was the new Specsavers advert, and a road sign that told me where I was going which meant I needed to try and avoid this. I also noticed what appeared to be Helvetica writing on the Royal Mail van that was driving directly infront of me. Luckily he turned off shortly after which meant I didnt need to avoid him as much as I thought.
At home it was now 6pm and my dog Chloe needed to be taken for her second walk of the day. So as I strolled around the streets of my area to the local park I came accross more Helvetica typefaces staring me point blank in the face. I knew I could avoid these on foot easier than by car so I made good use of Chloe’s legs and took her the long way round to the other entrance. Unfortunately for me there were the two exact same signs at the next entrance as there were in the first saying ‘No Golf Allowed’ and a ‘Police Notice’. I quickly closed my eyes and threw the ball for Chloe so I didnt have to see the signs again.
I also found that the litter bin and electricity point had Helvetica writing on too which meant I had to hurry along home and try to avoid anymore Helvetica typefaces.
I did manage to avoid anymore Helvetica typefaces for the rest of the night and thought I was successful in avoiding Helvetica throughout the day. After this brief I find it amazing that there are so many Helvetica typefaces out there in everyday situations but you dont realise until you do try and find them. I have enjoyed the brief and still find myself looking for Helvetica now and giggling to myself when I do find it.

It was now 12pm which meant it was time for some lunch. As I headed into Walsall I noticed the pedestrian crossing was written in Helvetica which meant I had to change my direction and safely cross the raod by using another route.
Walking towards the town centre I found a road sign with Helvetica writing, it was heading towards the New Art Gallery, Manor Hospital and The Leather Museum. As it was written in Helvetica typeface I needed to change my direction again which meant I went the opposite way to how I started.
As I walked through the town centre I noticed a few shops with Helvetica as the typeface for their shop signs. I took photos of Boots and Topshop as I needed to go into the shops but wasn’t sure whether the signs did have Helvetica typefaces. I diverted away from them both anyway but noticed that T.Mobile was very similar to Helvetica typefaces I had seen previously in the day. I needed to change my contract with T.Mobile but had to change my mind when I noticed the typefaces in the shop window.

For Jo’s brief we were asked to live without Helvetica for 12 hours. This is to be taken into one sitting and a diary must be kept to show the time and also a visual recording of this must also be kept showing where instances of it’s finding and lack of use/obstacle etc.
I will be uploading the photos I have taken to show my findings of Helvetica and you will be able to find out how I avoided the typeface.
My day started off on a Wednesday morning as I was driving to college. I needed to find a new car park because the car park I usually keep my car had Helvetica writing splashed across in big bold letters and I needed to avoid this. It was 9.25am at this point and I needed to be at college for 9.30am. I was getting a little stressed trying to figure out where to park but luckily I found somewhere and was only a few minutes late for my first lesson.
At College when I went into the first lesson I realised that my computer keyboard had Helvetica lettering which meant I needed another computer with a non Helvetica keyboard face. This meant moving computers and when I finally sat down to a non Helvetica keyboard I was faced with another dilemma.
A boy named Joe who was in my class had a bag he must use for college with huge Helvetica writing staring straight at me. I knew I had to move once again and I finally plucked up the courage to ask someone else from my class to swap seats with me that didnt have a Helvetica keyboard and was a good few feet away from Joe’s bag.
Once we had got our first break I had gone outside with a friend whilst she had a cigarette and found two more Helvetica interruptions. The first one was a ‘litter’ bin and the next was a recylce bin that was next to the litter bin. I told my friend we needed to move away from the smoking area and with a strange glance she suggested another part of the college that was free of Helvetica typefaces!!!
This clip is what I really liked as it uses a scene from Batman: The Dark Knight with the joker and they have turned it into an animation that uses typography to bring the scene even darker than usual.
For the Animation brief Steve wants us to do I have been researching on youtube the different types of ideas people have had when using typography in animation. I found this short clip very interesting and wanted to create something with this type of effect in my piece.
Here are some more of my designs that I have made using the quote, ‘I only have one typeface which i use and love’. Some of the designs I am quite proud of but there are a few that turned out not as good as I would have liked.

This brief is for Jo’s lesson on a Friday afternoon. We have been asked to create 20 different typeposters/worksheets using only the phrase; ‘I have only one typeface which I use and love’, using only one typeface of Arial. The only thing we can change is the weight, size, leading, kerning, juxtaposition, direction, multiplication and colour. No shadows, filters or anything other than a flat colour if necessary for a background.
